Those who see the poet Miroslav Válek (1927 – 1991) as a disillusioned analyst of the human situation are not mistaken. As an analyst, he demonstrated a sense not only for hidden things, but also for those hidden things that people do not want to show to others. Perhaps because it is not proper, but certainly also because it would reveal their vulnerable places. And although Válek began enchanted by the beauty and spirituality of the world, with increasing experience he involuntarily cured himself of illusions about love, goodness or justice. (Ján Gavura)
